What does it consist of?
Pancreatic cysts are fluid-filled sac-like lesions located in the pancreas. In many cases, they are detected incidentally during tests performed for other reasons.
Some cysts are of no clinical significance, but others may require a more detailed study or follow-up over time. That's why a specialist assessment is important, to identify what type of cyst it is and what the most appropriate management is.
When can I have my first consultation?
It is advisable to consult when a pancreatic cyst has been detected on an imaging test, or when there are doubts about its nature, its evolution or the need for follow-up.
Associated symptoms
- Abdominal pain. Discomfort in the upper abdomen, sometimes persistent or intermittent.
- Nausea or digestive discomfort. Non-specific symptoms that may appear occasionally.
- Weight loss. Non-specific symptoms that may appear occasionally.
- Absence of symptoms. In many cases, they are detected incidentally during tests carried out for other reasons.
Diagnostic tests associated
- Abdominal ultrasound. It allows for an initial visualisation of the cyst and assessment of its initial size.
- TAC. It allows the structure of the cyst and its relationship with neighbouring organs to be characterised.
- Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). It allows for maximum precision in viewing the contents of the cyst and whether it communicates with the pancreatic duct.
